Following

in his steps

T

hen said Jesus to his disciples, If any will come after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross and follow me.” Mat. 16:24
Real faith has feet, and it follows. Real faith begins in the heart, but then it grows, and it shows. (Rom. 10:9).  Repentance is a change of both mind and heart, but the head is hard until the heart is humbled. The Gospel calls us to “believe,” but to believe in the Biblical sense means to trust in, adhere to, and rely on. To adhere to, means to follow or be with (as in understand, agree with and follow). Are you following me, following what I am saying?  A believer is a follower of Christ. Somehow during this last Century, a strange form of Christianity has grown up like Tares in a field of Wheat, that teaches “following Christ” is optional, and that discipleship is an Elective. Nothing could be further from the truth. While no one can be saved by their own works, real faith works. When we follow in His steps, it is seen by others by what we seek, how we suffer, and who we serve.

"When we follow in His steps, it is seen by others by what we seek, how we suffer, and who we serve."

Psalm 85:10 describes where we found him (or better, where he found us), where mercy and truth meet (the cross). What happens next describes the new life and relationship that trusts in, adheres to, and relies on. “Righteousness shall go before Him and shall set us in the way of His steps” Ps. 85:13.  Watch Him and watch your step.  -id
