God did it, and never me
It was His grace and charity
His the fingers that formed the stars
His the palms that bear the scars

Not the works that I have done
Though ‘twas for good works I was made
The greatest work was by God’s Son
And by this my ransom paid

He bore the weight, paid the cost
And fulfilled salvation’s plan
Searched until he found me, lost
This Kind Shepherd and God-Man

‘tis not the will that willeth
Nor to the man who fastest runs
But whose faith that sits the stillest
and believes who are God’s sons
